Una Drowns: 50-Year Rainfall Record Triggers Havoc

Una district in Himachal Pradesh bore the brunt of an unprecedented downpour on August 1-2, 2025. The region recorded a staggering 258 mm of rainfall, the highest in half a century.

The deluge, which began Friday night, unleashed widespread destruction. Homes, businesses, and agricultural lands suffered extensive damage. Basements were particularly hard hit.

The intensity of the rainfall overwhelmed drainage systems, leading to significant flooding in low-lying areas. Many families were displaced and are in urgent need of assistance.

Himachal Pradesh’s Deputy Chief Minister has swiftly responded, ordering immediate relief measures for the affected population. Teams are on the ground assessing the damage and distributing aid.

This devastating event underscores the urgent need for robust infrastructure and disaster preparedness measures in the face of increasingly unpredictable weather patterns, a growing concern across the Himalayas.
