AI Boom in Indian Research: A Hidden Revolution?
A groundbreaking study analyzing over a million scientific papers published between 2020 and 2024 reveals a surge in Artificial Intelligence usage. The most significant growth, a remarkable 22%, was observed in computer science research.
Interestingly, the study, released August 4, 2025, found higher AI adoption rates in preprints authored by researchers from non-English speaking countries. Shorter papers also showed a greater propensity for AI tool usage.
However, a concerning trend emerged: Transparency remains a major issue. A mere two out of 200 sampled papers explicitly acknowledged AI assistance in their research.
This lack of disclosure raises serious questions about the integrity and reproducibility of scientific findings. The implications for Indian researchers, particularly those aiming for global recognition, are profound. Greater awareness and stricter guidelines are urgently needed to ensure ethical and transparent AI integration in scientific research.
