Mann Claims Drug Menace Ebbs in Punjab; Slams Opposition for Backing Majithia
Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann on Monday credited a concerted effort by the state government and its citizens for a significant reduction in drug abuse. He lauded the restructuring of Village Defence Committees (VDCs), a key initiative in the anti-drug campaign.
The CM’s statement comes amidst a backdrop of numerous arrests and substantial drug seizures. He highlighted the proactive role of VDCs in curbing the drug trade within their respective villages.
Mann, however, sharply criticised the opposition for extending support to Bikram Singh Majithia, a Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) leader recently arrested on drug-related charges. He accused the opposition of shielding those involved in the narcotics trade.
The state government plans to recognise and reward villages that have successfully eliminated drug abuse, further incentivising community participation in the anti-drug drive. This initiative aims to foster a drug-free Punjab.
This renewed focus on community engagement and stringent law enforcement represents a crucial step in Punjab’s ongoing battle against the drug menace. The success of this strategy will have significant implications for the state’s social fabric and its future.
