Cotton Crisis Grips Pakistan: Sindh Production Plummets 47%
Pakistan’s cotton production has taken a significant hit this year, plummeting by an estimated 30%, according to the Pakistan Cotton Ginners Association (PCGA). The decline is primarily attributed to a devastating 47% drop in cotton yields from Sindh province.
While Punjab province saw a marginal increase in production, the impact of unseasonal rains severely compromised the quality of the cotton crop. This has resulted in substantial losses for ginners across the country.
The government, in response to the crisis, has introduced a new moisture policy aimed at providing support to affected farmers. The Dawn newspaper reported on this new initiative on August 4, 2025.
