Delhi Govt Scraps GST on Fortified Rice, Boosting Nutrition Schemes
Delhi’s government has provided a significant boost to its crucial nutrition programs. A landmark amendment to the Goods and Services Tax (GST) framework, effective immediately, exempts food inputs used in the production of fortified rice kernels.
This crucial move, authorised by the Lieutenant Governor on August 3, 2025, directly addresses the high cost of producing fortified rice. Lower production costs will translate into greater affordability and accessibility of this vital nutritional supplement.
The exemption specifically targets welfare schemes like the Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS), ensuring vulnerable populations, particularly children and pregnant women, receive better nourishment.
This decision reflects a proactive approach by the Delhi government to enhance public health and nutrition. The move is expected to significantly improve the nutritional status of beneficiaries, contributing to a healthier Delhi.
