Diplomatic Deception: Rs 14.73 Crore Weed Haul at Mumbai Airport
Mumbai Customs officials made a significant drug bust at the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport on August 4, 2025. A passenger arriving from Bangkok was apprehended for smuggling a substantial quantity of narcotics.
The contraband, weighing 15 kilograms, consisted of hydroponic cannabis. Its estimated street value is a staggering Rs 14.73 crore.
The accused cleverly concealed the drugs within a package deceptively labelled as a “Diplomatic Pouch” from the Ministry of External Affairs. Fake documents were also discovered.
This brazen attempt to exploit diplomatic cover highlights the sophisticated methods employed by international drug syndicates. Investigations are underway to uncover the larger network involved.
The seizure underscores the ongoing challenge posed by drug trafficking and the need for heightened vigilance at our international entry points. This case serves as a stark reminder of the immense profits driving this illicit trade and its potential to destabilize communities.
