Punjab to involve public in fight against drugs; ‘Yudh Nasheyan Virudh 2.0’ to begin

Punjab Launches ‘Yudh 2.0’: Citizen Army Takes on Drug Menace

Punjab is stepping up its fight against drugs with the launch of “Yudh Nasheyan Virudh 2.0” – a citizen-centric initiative aimed at eradicating drug abuse from the state. The ambitious plan, commencing in Ludhiana on August 4, 2025, will eventually encompass the entire state.

This second phase moves beyond law enforcement, empowering local communities. Village and ward-level committees, comprising 10-20 members, will act as vigilant eyes and ears, reporting suspicious drug-related activities directly to the police.

The initiative builds upon the success of the first phase, which primarily focused on apprehending drug traffickers. This yielded significant results, with nearly 24,500 arrests made. However, the government recognizes the need for a more holistic approach involving active community participation.

The success of “Yudh 2.0” will hinge on the active involvement of Punjab’s citizens. Its effectiveness in curbing drug abuse and fostering safer communities will be closely observed, setting a potential model for other states battling similar challenges.
