Dishom Guru’s Final Journey: Jharkhand Bids Tearful Adieu to Shibu Soren

Jharkhand’s political landscape mourned the passing of its stalwart leader, Shibu Soren, on August 5, 2025. The JMM co-founder and former Chief Minister breathed his last at 81, succumbing to prolonged kidney ailments.

Thousands thronged his native village to pay their last respects. The funeral procession, a sea of grieving faces, included prominent politicians and countless villagers.

His son and current Chief Minister, Hemant Soren, performed the last rites, amidst chants of “Dishom Guru,” a title reflecting Soren’s immense influence and respect within the state. The cremation was accorded full state honours.

Soren’s legacy extends beyond Jharkhand’s political sphere. His life and work will continue to shape the state’s trajectory for years to come, leaving an indelible mark on its socio-political fabric. The vacuum left by his passing will be felt deeply by the state, demanding a reassessment of its political dynamics.
