Bains Faces Akal Takht Ire Over Srinagar Performance
Punjab Cabinet Minister Harjot Singh Bains is to appear before the Akal Takht on August 6. This follows a summons issued by the highest temporal seat of the Sikhs after a controversial dance performance at a Srinagar event commemorating Guru Teg Bahadur.
Bains had earlier tendered an apology for the incident. However, the Akal Takht has decided to proceed with the hearing to assess the gravity of the matter.
The Director of the Language Department, also summoned, is currently out of the country and his appearance will be scheduled later.
The Akal Takht’s decision on August 6 will set a significant precedent, impacting future cultural events commemorating Sikh Gurus and the sensitivity surrounding their portrayal. The outcome will closely be watched by religious and political circles in Punjab and beyond.
