Delhi’s School Fee Crackdown: 1677 Schools Under Scrutiny

The Delhi School Education (Transparency in Fees) Act, 2025, came into effect, bringing 1,677 private schools under its regulatory umbrella. The Act aims to curb arbitrary fee hikes and ensure transparency in school finances.

The legislation establishes fee fixation committees to determine justifiable fees. A robust three-tier appeal system allows parents to challenge fee decisions.

Schools are now mandated to publicly disclose their financial statements, promoting accountability. Unauthorized fee increases will face stringent penalties, including the potential revocation of school recognition.

This landmark legislation is a significant step towards ensuring affordable and accessible quality education for Delhi’s children. The success of the Act will depend on its effective implementation and the cooperation of all stakeholders, particularly the schools themselves. Parents now have a powerful tool to fight exploitative fee structures, potentially setting a precedent for other states grappling with similar issues.
