Jharkhand Mourns Shibu Soren: A Giant Falls

Jharkhand’s political landscape is shrouded in grief following the demise of veteran leader and JMM co-founder, Shibu Soren, at the age of 81 on August 5, 2025. His passing marks the end of an era for the state’s political dynamics.

Soren’s final journey will be marked with full state honours in his native Nemra. Prominent national leaders, including Rahul Gandhi and Mamata Banerjee, are expected to pay their last respects.

As a mark of respect, the Jharkhand government has declared three days of state mourning. The state assembly has been adjourned, suspending legislative proceedings.

The loss of Shibu Soren is deeply felt across Jharkhand.
