NGT Cracks Down on Haryana’s Illegal Logging Racket
The National Green Tribunal (NGT) has launched a probe into alleged illegal tree felling in Bhainsa Tibba village, Haryana. An application filed before the Tribunal claims that trees on land protected under the Punjab Land Preservation Act (PLPA) were felled for commercial gain.
The NGT has directed the Principal Chief Conservator of Forests (PCCF), Panchkula, to conduct a thorough site inspection. A detailed report on the findings of this inspection must be submitted to the Tribunal before the next hearing, scheduled for October 30, 2025.
This action by the NGT underscores the growing concern over illegal logging and its devastating impact on the environment. The outcome of this case will set a crucial precedent for protecting Haryana’s green cover and holding perpetrators accountable. The timely intervention highlights the NGT’s commitment to environmental conservation and its role in safeguarding India’s natural resources.
