Marcos Visit: India Pushes for Faster AITIGA Trade Deal
India is pressing for a swift conclusion to the review of the Agreement on Trade in Goods (AITIGA) with the Philippines, according to a senior Ministry of External Affairs official. The push comes amidst the ongoing state visit of Philippine President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. to India.
MEA Secretary (East), Periasamy Kumaran, confirmed this during a special press briefing on August 5, 2025. He highlighted the Philippines’ supportive stance on expediting the review process.
Kumaran expressed optimism about finalising the AITIGA review before the year’s end. This expedited review is expected to significantly boost bilateral trade between the two nations.
The successful conclusion of the AITIGA review holds immense potential for enhancing economic cooperation between India and the Philippines. This strengthened trade relationship could unlock new avenues for growth and investment, benefiting both countries significantly.
