SC Slams CBI Delay in Manipur Audio Clip Probe

The Supreme Court on Tuesday sharply criticized the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) for its tardiness in submitting a forensic report on audio clips allegedly implicating former Manipur Chief Minister N. Biren Singh. The court expressed its displeasure over the delay in the ongoing investigation.

The apex court’s observations came during a hearing on the matter. The details of the court’s specific directives remain awaited.

Separately, the court also heard a plea from the Tamil Nadu government challenging a ban on using former Chief Ministers’ names in government advertisements. However, the court declined to interfere with the Madras High Court’s order.

In another development, the Supreme Court refused to stay a Madras High Court order mandating One Time Password (OTP) verification for DMK’s welfare schemes. This ruling impacts the implementation of various state government initiatives.

This series of rulings highlights the judiciary’s active role in overseeing governance and ensuring accountability, particularly concerning transparency in political processes and public welfare schemes. The impact of these decisions will undoubtedly be felt across the political landscape of Manipur and Tamil Nadu in the coming days.
