Shimla CMO Champions Breastfeeding: A Mother’s Milk, A Nation’s Strength
Shimla’s Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Ranta, spearheaded a crucial breastfeeding awareness drive on August 4, 2025. The session focused on the immense benefits of breastfeeding for both mother and child.
Dr. Ranta stressed the vital role of breastfeeding in strengthening infant immunity and significantly reducing infant mortality rates. He urged mothers to exclusively breastfeed their babies for the first six months of life.
The importance of colostrum, the first milk produced after childbirth, was also highlighted during the session. This rich, antibody-filled fluid provides newborns with essential protection.
District-wide awareness campaigns are currently underway, aiming to educate mothers on the critical role of breastfeeding in a child’s healthy development and overall well-being. This initiative underscores the urgent need to improve maternal and child health outcomes across Himachal Pradesh, reflecting a national priority in strengthening healthcare infrastructure at the grassroots.
