Haridwar Rockslide Miraculously Avoided; Uttarkashi Floods Claim Four Lives
Heavy rainfall lashed Uttarakhand on August 5, 2025, causing widespread disruption and tragedy. A rockslide narrowly missed several youths travelling on a Haridwar road, highlighting the precarious conditions in the region.
Waterlogging became widespread across many areas due to the torrential downpour, with the Ganga River swelling significantly. This added to the already challenging situation for residents and commuters alike.
The situation worsened in Uttarkashi, where a cloudburst triggered devastating flash floods. At least four people lost their lives in the deluge, and rescue operations are underway, involving the Army, ITBP, and NDRF.
The state government has announced relief measures for the affected families and is undertaking damage assessments. The incident underscores the urgent need for improved infrastructure and disaster preparedness in Uttarakhand, particularly given the increasing frequency of extreme weather events.
