The much-awaited Kajauli water project commenced its first phase in Kharar on August 5, 2025. This initial phase, costing Rs 22.15 crore, is a crucial step in the overall Rs 150 crore project.
The project aims to provide clean drinking water to several areas grappling with water scarcity. Beneficiaries include Jhungian, Mandair Nagar, Harlalpur, Jandpur, and areas along the Chandigarh road.
Water will be sourced from Kajauli and transported via a network of pipelines, underground storage reservoirs (UGSR), and overhead tanks. The entire first phase is slated for completion by September 2026.
This initial success marks a significant step towards addressing Kharar’s water woes. The timely completion of subsequent phases will be crucial for ensuring a reliable and sustainable water supply for the region, improving public health and overall quality of life.
