The Union Sports Secretary undertook a comprehensive inspection of the upgraded sports infrastructure in Chandigarh on August 5, 2025. The visit focused on two key locations: the Sector 16 stadium and the Lake Sports Complex.

Significant improvements at the Sector 16 stadium are underway. These include a completely new playing field, a vastly improved drainage system, and the addition of much-needed practice pitches. Authorities aim to complete these renovations by Independence Day, August 15, 2025.

The Lake Sports Complex is also undergoing a major facelift. The modernisation project encompasses a complete overhaul of the swimming pool and the tennis and squash courts.

These upgrades reflect the government’s commitment to fostering a vibrant sporting culture in the region. The improved facilities are expected to significantly benefit local athletes and boost participation in various sports, potentially nurturing future national champions. The timely completion of these projects is crucial for Chandigarh’s bid to host upcoming national-level sporting events.
