Sriharikota Gets a Giant Leap: New Launchpad to Fuel India’s Space Ambitions
The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) is constructing a third launchpad (TLP) at its Sriharikota spaceport, a project slated for completion by March 2029. This ambitious undertaking, costing a significant Rs 4,000 crore, will be instrumental in launching heavier payloads into orbit.
The new facility will be crucial for launching India’s Next Generation Launch Vehicles (NGLVs) and the powerful LVM3 rockets. This added infrastructure will significantly enhance ISRO’s launch capabilities and operational redundancy.
This investment underscores India’s unwavering commitment to its ambitious space exploration goals. The TLP will play a vital role in supporting future missions, including the planned space station by 2035 and a lunar landing by 2040.
The new launchpad’s enhanced capacity is expected to propel India to the forefront of global space exploration, attracting further investment and creating numerous high-skill jobs within the burgeoning space sector. This development is not merely a technological advancement; it represents a significant step towards establishing India as a major player in the global space race.
