Punjab Teachers’ Revolt: DTF Threatens Teachers’ Day Showdown
The Democratic Teacher Federation (DTF) of Punjab staged a fiery protest outside the Punjab School Education Board (PSEB) office on Tuesday, August 5, 2025. Their demands, long pending, centre on service regularization and a revamp of what they term “anti-teacher” government policies.
Teachers voiced strong criticism of the state government’s handling of education, alleging neglect and a lack of responsiveness to their concerns. The atmosphere was charged with anger and frustration.
The protest saw a large turnout, highlighting the widespread discontent among Punjab’s teaching community. Teachers warned of escalating action, including a major demonstration on Teachers’ Day, if their demands remain unaddressed.
PSEB officials, however, offered assurances, promising a concrete resolution to the issues by August 21, 2025. The success of these assurances in appeasing the DTF remains to be seen.
This escalating conflict underscores the urgent need for the Punjab government to address the grievances of its teachers. The potential disruption to education, particularly with the threat of a Teachers’ Day protest, raises serious concerns about the future of schooling in the state.
