Balochistan’s Bleak Reality: HRCP Exposes State-Sponsored Abuses
A week-long fact-finding mission by the Human Rights Commission of Pakistan (HRCP) to Turbat and Quetta has unearthed a grim picture of human rights violations in Balochistan. The team, comprising Chairperson Asad Iqbal Butt, former Senator Farhatullah Babar, and prominent human rights activists Nasreen Azhar and I.A. Rehman, documented widespread abuses.
Enforced disappearances and extrajudicial killings were rampant, according to the HRCP report. Civil liberties remain severely curtailed, with the local population facing significant restrictions on freedom of expression and assembly.
The HRCP also highlighted the stark economic and social neglect plaguing the region. This, coupled with the human rights violations, paints a deeply concerning picture of the situation on the ground.
The findings raise serious questions about the state’s responsibility to protect its citizens and uphold fundamental rights. The HRCP’s report serves as a stark reminder of the urgent need for comprehensive reforms and accountability in Balochistan, impacting the nation’s overall stability and progress. The report, released on August 7, 2025, demands immediate attention from the government and international human rights organizations.
