Kangra’s Women Carve New Future from Wood and Paint
A 50-day government-sponsored workshop in Kangra concluded on August 6, 2025, breathing new life into the region’s artistic heritage. Thirty local artisans, mostly women, received intensive training in crafting exquisite wooden décor inspired by the famed Kangra miniature paintings.
The initiative, a significant boost to the local economy, provided participants with stipends throughout the program. This ensured their participation and addressed immediate financial needs.
The training equipped these women with valuable skills, transforming them into entrepreneurs capable of creating sustainable livelihoods. They now possess the expertise to produce high-quality, uniquely Kangra-inspired products.
This project serves as a shining example of how government initiatives can empower communities and preserve India’s rich cultural heritage while simultaneously addressing economic challenges. The success of this workshop highlights the potential for similar programs across the country, offering a pathway to both artistic revival and financial independence for rural artisans.
