Heavy rain triggers blackout in Dharamsala, McLeodganj

Dharamsala, McLeod Ganj Plunged into Darkness: Monsoon Fury Strikes

Heavy rain lashed Dharamsala and McLeod Ganj on Tuesday night, plunging the hill stations into darkness. A major power outage, lasting several hours, crippled essential services.

The primary cause was widespread damage to 33KV power lines. Falling trees and damage near the Pingal nullah were key factors in the disruption.

Partial power restoration was achieved after approximately three hours. However, complete normalcy returned only much later.

This incident highlights the vulnerability of hill stations’ power infrastructure to extreme weather events, underscoring the urgent need for robust and resilient power grids to withstand monsoon fury and ensure uninterrupted essential services for residents and tourists alike. The incident serves as a stark reminder of the need for proactive measures to safeguard against future disruptions.
