Himachal Pradesh to Electrify its Roads: 1,000 New Buses Hit the Highways
Himachal Pradesh is set to significantly bolster its public transport network with the addition of 1,000 new buses to the existing fleet of 3,200. This expansion, announced on August 6, 2025, signals a major step towards improving connectivity across the state.
The new additions will comprise a mix of vehicles, including 327 electric buses, 250 diesel buses, and 100 mini-buses, catering to diverse transportation needs.
This initiative goes beyond mere fleet expansion. The state government is concurrently investing in the infrastructure required to support the increased number of electric vehicles, namely the installation of charging stations across key locations.
Furthermore, the government’s commitment extends to ensuring the viability of the Himachal Road Transport Corporation (HRTC) public service, even on routes currently operating at a loss. This underlines a commitment to providing accessible transport across the state, regardless of profitability.
This significant investment in public transport will not only improve connectivity and reduce reliance on private vehicles but also contribute to a greener Himachal Pradesh, aligning with the state’s environmental goals. The impact on tourism and the overall economy is expected to be substantial.
