Kullu Flash Flood: Urtu Village Devastated, Hundreds Homeless
A sudden flash flood ravaged Urtu village in Kullu district on Wednesday, August 6, 2025, leaving a trail of destruction in its wake. Homes, shops, and vehicles were swept away, while orchards were completely ruined.
Several families have been rendered homeless by the unexpected deluge, highlighting the vulnerability of hill communities to extreme weather events. The force of the water also damaged roads leading to Urtu, effectively isolating several neighbouring villages.
Thankfully, no loss of life has been reported. District officials are currently on the ground assessing the extent of the damage and initiating relief measures for the affected residents.
Road repair work has begun to restore connectivity to the cut-off villages. The incident underscores the urgent need for improved infrastructure and disaster preparedness in Himachal Pradesh’s vulnerable hill regions, particularly in the face of increasingly erratic weather patterns.
