Plastic Crackdown: 112 Kg of Banned Bags Seized in Chandigarh Mandi
Chandigarh Municipal Corporation (MC) officials conducted a raid at Sector 26 mandi on Wednesday, August 6, 2025, seizing a significant quantity of banned single-use plastic carry bags.
The raid netted 112 kg of plastic bags, highlighting the continued flouting of the UT Administration’s 2019 ban on such materials.
Three vendors were apprehended while selling the prohibited bags and issued challans for violating the regulations.
The seized plastic was immediately sent for shredding, as per the MC’s waste management protocol.
This action underscores the ongoing struggle to enforce the plastic ban in the city and the need for stricter measures to curb its use. The incident serves as a stark reminder of the environmental challenges posed by single-use plastics and the importance of public awareness and stricter enforcement to protect Chandigarh’s environment.
