SC Orders EC to Explain Deletion of 65 Lakh Bihar Voters
The Supreme Court has directed the Election Commission of India (ECI) to furnish details regarding the deletion of over 65 lakh voters from Bihar’s electoral rolls by Saturday, August 9, 2025. The order follows a petition filed by the Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR).
The apex court sought a comprehensive explanation from the ECI for the mass voter deletions. The reasons behind this significant reduction in the electorate need to be clarified before the final electoral rolls are published.
The ECI is expected to submit a detailed report outlining the process and justification for removing these voters from the electoral list. The final electoral rolls are scheduled for publication on September 30, 2025.
This development raises concerns about the integrity of the electoral process in Bihar and the potential disenfranchisement of a large number of voters. The ECI’s response will be crucial in addressing these concerns and ensuring free and fair elections in the state. The upcoming elections will be significantly impacted by the outcome of this directive.
