Sky High Concerns: Aircraft Glitches Surge, Raising Safety Questions
A significant rise in reported aircraft technical glitches has sparked concerns about aviation safety in India. Data reveals 190 such incidents were reported between January and July 21, 2025, a concerning increase compared to the 421 incidents reported throughout the entirety of 2024.
Airlines bear the sole responsibility for maintaining their fleets and promptly addressing any technical issues. The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) maintains a watchful eye, ensuring adherence to stringent safety standards and taking swift action against any violations.
Despite these challenges, significant investments have been made in upgrading India’s aviation infrastructure. Over Rs 96,000 crore was invested in airport development between FY 2019-20 and FY 2024-25.
This surge in technical glitches underscores the need for a comprehensive review of maintenance protocols and a closer examination of the factors contributing to these incidents. The safety of millions of air travellers hinges on the prompt and effective resolution of these issues, demanding immediate attention from all stakeholders.
