Tewari Slams Railway Minister: Chandigarh Station Upgrade – A Timeline Fiasco?
Congress leader Manish Tewari on Wednesday sharply criticised Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw’s response concerning the redevelopment of Chandigarh railway station. Tewari expressed deep dissatisfaction with the Minister’s reply in Parliament.
He highlighted the absence of concrete timelines for the project’s completion. The lack of detailed information regarding parking solutions was another key concern raised by the MP.
Tewari further criticised the overall perceived inefficiency in the project’s execution. He demanded a clear roadmap and swift action to address these shortcomings.
The Railway Minister, in his response, had stated that the project is progressing under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme. A budget of ₹436.29 crore has been allocated specifically for Chandigarh station’s redevelopment.
Furthermore, the Minister mentioned a larger allocation of ₹2,216 crore for the Northern Railway zone as part of the scheme. However, these figures failed to satisfy Tewari’s demands for transparency and accountability.
This exchange underscores the ongoing debate surrounding infrastructure projects in the region. The lack of specific details raises concerns about timely completion and efficient utilisation of public funds. The people of Chandigarh, and indeed the entire region, will be closely watching the progress of this crucial project.
