Jaipur Doctors Perform India’s First ‘Batman’ Mitral Valve Surgery
A team of doctors at Rajasthan Hospital Limited (RHL), Jaipur, achieved a significant medical milestone on August 8, 2025. They successfully performed India’s first electrosurgical valve-in-valve mitral procedure on a 74-year-old woman from Srinagar. This groundbreaking procedure, informally dubbed the “Batman Procedure,” offers a new hope for patients with severe mitral valve disease.
The complex surgery involved replacing a failing mitral valve without open-heart surgery. The minimally invasive technique utilises electrosurgery for precision and reduced trauma. This innovative approach significantly reduces recovery time and potential complications.
The patient, who suffered from debilitating symptoms prior to the procedure, is now recovering well. The successful surgery marks a significant advancement in cardiac care in India.
This pioneering achievement at RHL positions Jaipur and Rajasthan at the forefront of cardiac surgical innovation. The development underscores the growing capabilities of Indian medical professionals and holds immense promise for improving the lives of countless patients across the nation grappling with critical heart conditions.
