License Scam Fallout: Punjab Govt Clears Top Cops
The Punjab government has revoked the suspensions of Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) SPS Parmar and Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Varinder Singh Brar. Both officers were previously suspended over allegations of misconduct.
Parmar’s suspension stemmed from perceived delays in investigating a major driving license scam. The government apparently found insufficient evidence to justify continued suspension.
Brar’s suspension, related to accusations of inaction on a bribery complaint, has also been lifted. He will now report directly to the Director General of Police.
The government’s decision, announced on August 27, 2025, has sparked debate. Critics question the transparency of the investigation and the potential implications for accountability within the state police force. This development raises concerns about the effectiveness of anti-corruption measures in Punjab.
