Yamuna’s Fury: Verma Inspects ITO Barrage Amidst Haryana Drain Breach
Delhi Water Minister, Mr. Verma, personally inspected the ITO barrage on Wednesday, September 3, 2025, following the alarming rise in the Yamuna’s water level. He assured citizens there was no need for panic.
However, the situation remains precarious. A breach in a Haryana drainage system near the Delhi border has triggered significant flooding in several low-lying areas.
The Delhi government, in coordination with the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), is actively engaged in repair work and evacuation efforts. Over 2,000 people have already been moved to temporary relief shelters.
The incident highlights the urgent need for better inter-state coordination on water management and infrastructure maintenance. The vulnerability of Delhi’s flood defenses underscores the critical need for proactive measures to prevent future crises and safeguard the lives and livelihoods of its citizens.
