Monsoon Mayhem: Tricity Drowns, Zirakpur Crippled
Torrential rain lashed the Tricity on September 6, 2025, causing widespread waterlogging in Chandigarh, Mohali, and Panchkula. Zirakpur bore the brunt of the downpour, experiencing severe flooding and significant traffic disruptions.
Numerous villages in Mohali and Panchkula remained inaccessible due to submerged roads and overflowing drains. The situation was further aggravated by the opening of Sukhna Lake’s floodgate, exacerbating the already dire conditions.
Local MP Manish Tewari visited the affected areas, personally assessing the damage and suggesting immediate remedial measures to alleviate the suffering of residents. His suggestions included improved drainage systems and disaster preparedness strategies.
The India Meteorological Department has forecast continued rainfall for the coming days, raising concerns about further flooding and potential damage to property and infrastructure. The administration needs to urgently address the city’s vulnerability to such weather events to prevent future crises.
