Himachal Floods: 900 Roads Blocked, Kullu Crippled

Torrential rains have wreaked havoc across Himachal Pradesh, leaving 900 roads, including three National Highways, impassable. The situation is particularly dire in Kullu district.

Power and water supplies remain severely disrupted across the affected areas. Numerous transformers have been damaged, leaving many residents without electricity. Similarly, several water schemes are out of service.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast heavy rainfall to continue until September 12. This prolonged downpour raises serious concerns about further damage and the potential for widespread landslides.

The state government is working to restore essential services and clear the blocked roads. However, the scale of the damage presents a significant challenge. The disruption to transportation and essential services underscores the urgent need for robust infrastructure capable of withstanding extreme weather events, a critical concern given the increasing frequency of such incidents.
