Chandigarh Roads Get a Lifeline: UT Takes Over 275km Stretch
The Punjab Governor has approved the transfer of 71 V-3 roads, spanning 275 kilometers in Chandigarh, from the Municipal Corporation (MC) to the Union Territory (UT) Engineering Department. This crucial decision comes in the wake of severe deterioration of these vital arteries, primarily due to a crippling shortage of funds.
The MC’s inability to secure the estimated Rs 45 crore required for urgent repairs prompted the intervention. The deteriorating condition of these roads had become a major concern for residents and commuters alike.
The UT Engineering Department has already initiated the process of preparing re-carpeting estimates. Tenders for the much-needed repairs have also been floated, signaling a swift move towards addressing the infrastructure deficit.
This transfer marks a significant step towards improving Chandigarh’s road infrastructure. The timely intervention will not only enhance the city’s aesthetics but also significantly improve the daily commute for its residents, boosting overall quality of life. The success of this initiative will serve as a benchmark for addressing similar infrastructural challenges in other urban centers across India.
