IIM Ahmedabad Dean, ADR Co-founder’s Final Act: Gift of Life
Jagdeep Singh Chhokar, a distinguished academic and co-founder of the Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR), passed away recently. His selfless act, however, continues to inspire.
Chhokar, former Dean of the prestigious Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad (IIM-A), had pledged in 2020 to donate his body, including his eyes, for medical research.
This commitment was fulfilled posthumously, with his remains donated to the Lady Hardinge Medical College (LHMC) in Delhi. The process was facilitated by health officials and received the full support of the LHMC director.
This generous contribution will significantly benefit medical education and research at LHMC, providing invaluable learning opportunities for students and researchers. It serves as a powerful testament to his dedication to public service, even in death.
Chhokar’s legacy extends beyond his academic achievements. His decision highlights the urgent need for increased organ and body donation in India, a critical step towards improving healthcare outcomes. The nation can learn much from his noble example.
