Chandigarh Property Tax Hike Sparks Residents’ Uproar
The Chandigarh Residents Associations Welfare Federation (CRAWFED) launched a city-wide signature campaign on April 20, 2025, vehemently opposing the recent threefold increase in property tax rates.
This decision followed an executive committee meeting held at the Sector 21 Community Centre. The meeting saw widespread condemnation of the hike.
CRAWFED, representing over 86 Residents Welfare Associations across Chandigarh, aims to gather significant public support to pressure the administration for a reconsideration.
The campaign underscores the growing discontent among citizens over escalating municipal charges and the need for greater transparency in taxation policies. Its success could significantly influence future property tax revisions in the city and set a precedent for other urban areas facing similar challenges.
