Congress Slams Property Tax Hike: Mani Majra Protest Erupts
The Chandigarh Congress today staged a vociferous protest against the controversial threefold hike in property tax. The demonstration, held at the Housing Board light point in Mani Majra, saw a large turnout of party workers.
Leading the charge was Chandigarh Congress district president Surjit Singh Dhillon, alongside city president HS Lucky and all Congress councillors. Protesters carried placards and raised slogans condemning the steep increase.
The demonstrators denounced the tax hike as burdensome for residents, especially the middle class. They demanded immediate rollback of the increase and a more transparent tax structure.
This protest highlights growing public discontent over the recent property tax revision. The Congress is clearly aiming to capitalize on this simmering anger ahead of upcoming local elections. The administration’s response to these concerns will be crucial in determining the political fallout.
