Delhi Tragedy: 11 Lives Lost in Mustafabad Building Collapse
Sarita Vihar, a neighbourhood in northeast Delhi, was shrouded in grief on Sunday. Residents gathered to mourn the eleven victims of a devastating building collapse in nearby Mustafabad.
Among the deceased were Tehsin, the building’s owner, and six members of his family. The 20-year-old structure crumbled in the early hours of Saturday, April 19, 2025, leaving behind a trail of devastation.
The incident has once again highlighted the precarious condition of many older buildings across the capital. Concerns regarding building safety regulations and enforcement are now at the forefront.
The loss of life has shaken the community deeply. Questions are being raised about the lack of timely intervention and the responsibility for maintaining the building’s structural integrity.
This tragedy underscores the urgent need for stricter building codes and regular inspections to prevent similar incidents in the future. The government must act decisively to ensure the safety of residents living in vulnerable structures across Delhi.
