Relief over property tax soon, claims BJP chief

Property Tax Relief on the Cards for Chandigarh?

Chandigarh BJP president Jatinder Pal Malhotra and Mayor Harpreet Kaur Babla have offered a glimmer of hope to city residents grappling with increased property tax rates. Following a meeting with Punjab Governor and UT Administrator Gulab Chand Kataria at Raj Bhawan on April 21, 2025, the leaders expressed optimism about imminent relief.

The delegation, including Malhotra, the Mayor, and other BJP representatives, held discussions with the Administrator regarding the public’s concerns. They conveyed the widespread discontent over the recent tax hikes.

Kataria reportedly listened attentively to the delegation’s concerns and assured them of his commitment to addressing the issue. The exact nature of the proposed relief remains unclear, but the BJP leaders’ statement has sparked anticipation amongst Chandigarh residents.

This development comes as a significant relief for many homeowners facing financial strain due to the increased property taxes. The outcome of this meeting will be keenly observed, particularly as it could influence upcoming municipal elections. The promise of relief will undoubtedly be a key factor in shaping public opinion and electoral strategies in the coming months.
