Punjab’s Green Leap: Mega Sewage Plant Ushers in Clean Water Era
Punjab took a significant stride towards cleaner water infrastructure with the inauguration of a state-of-the-art 15 Million Gallons per Day (MGD) sewage treatment plant (STP) on July 7, 2025. The Rs 145.26 crore project boasts advanced technology.
A key feature is the inclusion of a 5 MGD ultrafiltration plant – a first for the state – ensuring superior water purification. The plant also incorporates a 1 MW solar power plant, promoting sustainable energy practices.
This initiative is part of a larger government plan to upgrade water and sanitation facilities across 166 cities by December 2025. The project signifies a considerable investment in improving public health and environmental sustainability.
The successful implementation of this project sets a benchmark for other states grappling with similar challenges. Its success will be crucial in ensuring Punjab’s continued economic growth and the well-being of its citizens, particularly in light of increasing urbanization and water scarcity concerns.
