Aerotropolis Phase-2 Stalled: Farmers Dig In, Reject GMADA Land Pooling
Landowners from several villages near Mohali staged a strong protest on Monday, July 7, 2025, against the Greater Mohali Area Development Authority’s (GMADA) land pooling policy for the ambitious Aerotropolis Phase-2 project.
The farmers vehemently opposed the acquisition, citing past grievances related to land acquisition and alleging unfair land allocation in previous projects. They also raised concerns about inaccuracies in the GMADA survey.
Their primary demand is for more favourable terms and conditions before surrendering their land. The protestors asserted they would not part with their land until their concerns were adequately addressed.
Responding to the protests, the local MLA assured the agitating farmers that the state government would carefully consider their grievances and seek a mutually agreeable solution.
This standoff throws a significant spanner in the works for the Aerotropolis Phase-2 project, raising concerns about potential delays and escalating costs. The incident underscores the crucial need for transparent and equitable land acquisition policies to avoid such conflicts and ensure smooth implementation of major infrastructure projects in Punjab.
