X-India Faceoff: 2,355 Accounts Blocked, Legal Battle Looms

X, the social media giant, has alleged that the Indian government directed the blocking of 2,355 accounts on July 3, 2025. This sweeping action reportedly included several news outlets.

The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) has vehemently denied these claims. It asserts that the action did not specifically target international news organisations like Reuters.

MeitY further stated that it swiftly requested X to reinstate the blocked accounts. The ministry accuses X of deliberately delaying the restoration process.

X, however, maintains its position and has indicated it is considering legal avenues to challenge the government’s actions.
