Cobra Creates Stir at JNU Canteen!
A four-foot cobra was found near a gas cylinder in the Tejas Canteen at Jawaharlal Nehru University on Tuesday, July 8, 2025. The reptile’s unexpected appearance caused quite a stir amongst students and staff.
Wildlife SOS, a renowned wildlife rescue organisation, responded swiftly to the situation. They safely captured the snake and later released it back into its natural habitat.
Experts believe JNU’s proximity to the Aravalli forest, coupled with the ongoing monsoon season, is likely responsible for such incidents. The increased rainfall drives wildlife closer to human settlements in search of food and shelter.
Wildlife SOS reiterated the importance of maintaining calm when encountering such creatures. They advised against any aggressive actions and instead urged for a peaceful co-existence with the local wildlife.
This incident serves as a stark reminder of the delicate balance between urban development and the preservation of natural habitats. The increasing encroachment on wildlife territories necessitates a more conscious approach to urban planning and community awareness programs to prevent future conflicts between humans and animals.
