SYL Row: Haryana CM’s Optimism, Hooda’s BJP Barrage

Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar expressed confidence on Wednesday, July 9, 2025, that a solution to the long-standing Sutlej-Yamuna Link (SYL) canal dispute will be found soon. He reiterated the fraternal bond between Punjab and Haryana, emphasizing the need for a collaborative approach.

However, former Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda launched a scathing attack on the BJP government’s handling of the issue. He accused the BJP of inaction on the SYL, alleging a deliberate delay to appease political interests.

Hooda further alleged widespread manipulation of Below Poverty Line (BPL) cards for electoral gains. He claimed that the cancellation of millions of BPL cards has severely impacted vulnerable sections of the population.

The timing of Hooda’s accusations, coming close on the heels of the CM’s optimistic statement, adds a layer of political intrigue to the already complex SYL issue. This controversy highlights the deep-seated tensions and the high political stakes involved in the sharing of river waters between the two states. The impact on the upcoming elections and the welfare of millions affected by the BPL card cancellations cannot be ignored.
