NGT Slams Brakes on Mohali Resort’s Noise Pollution
The National Green Tribunal (NGT) has directed the Punjab Pollution Control Board (PPCB) to rein in the alleged noise pollution emanating from Sharon Resorts in Mohali. Villagers had earlier filed a complaint alleging unauthorized and excessively loud events at the resort, disturbing their peace.
Following the complaint, the NGT ordered the PPCB Chairman to personally inspect the resort during events. This inspection must assess the extent of noise pollution violations. The order mandates the PPCB to take appropriate action within three months.
The Tribunal’s swift action underscores the growing concern over unchecked noise pollution impacting residential areas. This case sets a crucial precedent for holding establishments accountable for adhering to noise pollution norms, a critical aspect of public health and well-being in urban India. The PPCB’s response in the coming months will be closely watched.
