Hill State Curbs High-Rise Construction Along Highways
New building restrictions have been imposed in Himachal Pradesh, impacting construction along four-lane roads and national highways in hilly areas. The rules, notified on July 9, 2025, mandate that all new constructions must be at least one metre below the road level.
This regulation specifically targets areas situated above 600 metres with a slope exceeding 30 degrees. The aim is to mitigate landslide risks and preserve the fragile Himalayan ecosystem.
The Himachal Pradesh government has invited public feedback on these new rules. Citizens have 30 days from the date of e-Gazette publication to submit their comments and suggestions.
These measures are crucial given the increasing frequency of landslides and infrastructure damage in the state. The effectiveness of these regulations will depend on strict enforcement and public cooperation, ensuring the safety and sustainability of Himachal Pradesh’s unique landscape.
