PGI Faces Contempt Charge: Ex-Dean Battles for Pension
A former Dean of the Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGI), Chandigarh, has moved the court seeking action against the institute for alleged contempt. The petition, filed recently, accuses PGI of defying a Central Administrative Tribunal (CAT) order.
The CAT, on April 10, 2025, had ruled in favour of the former Dean, directing PGI to release his pending pension and retirement benefits, along with applicable interest. The Tribunal deemed the withholding of these benefits illegal.
PGI’s failure to comply with the CAT’s order prompted the contempt petition. The next hearing in the matter is scheduled for July 16, 2025.
This case highlights a growing concern regarding the timely disbursement of retirement benefits to deserving individuals within government institutions. The outcome will set a crucial precedent for similar cases, affecting numerous retired employees across the nation.
