The Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) on Friday clarified that its chief Mohan Bhagwat’s recent comments about retirement at 75 were a misinterpretation. The remarks, originally a quote from a deceased leader, were not intended as a directive for anyone, the RSS emphatically stated.

This clarification follows sharp reactions from opposition parties. The Congress and Shiv Sena (UBT) had interpreted Bhagwat’s statement as a veiled suggestion regarding Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s future, given the PM turns 75 in September.

However, BJP leaders have consistently maintained that there is no age-based retirement policy within the party. They dismissed the opposition’s claims as politically motivated.

The RSS’s intervention aims to quell the controversy and prevent further speculation. The timing, just weeks before Modi’s 75th birthday, has added fuel to the already heated political climate. The issue highlights the ongoing debate on age and leadership in Indian politics.
