Astra Strikes True: India’s Homegrown Missile Aces 100km+ Test

India successfully demonstrated the prowess of its indigenously developed Astra air-to-air missile on Friday, July 11, 2025. Two successful tests, conducted jointly by the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) and the Indian Air Force (IAF), showcased the missile’s exceptional accuracy.

Launched from a Sukhoi-30 MKI fighter jet, the Astra missile, equipped with an indigenous radio frequency (RF) seeker, achieved pinpoint accuracy in destroying its designated targets.

The trials validated the Astra’s “fire-and-forget” capability, confirming its operational range extends beyond 100 kilometers. This significant achievement marks a major leap forward in India’s air-to-air combat capabilities.

This technological advancement enhances India’s strategic air power significantly, bolstering its defence preparedness against evolving threats. The successful tests underscore India’s growing self-reliance in advanced defence technologies, reducing dependence on foreign suppliers. The implications for regional security are undeniable.
